Abu Dhabi: Man fined Dh3,000 for posting offensive comments against company
A man has been fined Dh3,000 for defamation after he posted offensive comments against a company in Abu Dhabi. The Abu Dhabi Family, Civil and Administrative Cases Court ordered him to pay the fine, as well as delete the offensive comments that he posted on several websites. A case was filed after the man’s wife contracted the company to supply and install a kitchen in their home. The company said it “implemented the agreement to the fullest extent”, but that the man later made offensive comments against it on several websites. The company then sued the man and demanded Dh100,000 as compensation for the damages caused by the comments he posted online. At the Abu Dhabi court, the man was found guilty of defamation and ordered to pay the Dh3,000 fine. He will also pay half the company’s legal expenses.
