In a recent ruling, the Abu Dhabi Family, Civil, and Administrative Cases Court imposed a fine of Dh30,000 on a man for assaulting another individual with a knife. An altercation between the two ended in the attack that resulted in a 5cm cut and significant bleeding, causing the injured party to seek medical treatment. According to court records, the plaintiff filed a case against the defendant, demanding a compensation of Dh100,000 for the physical and emotional damages caused by the attack. The plaintiff also sought blood money and requested that the court impose fines, legal costs, and interest at a rate of 9 percent. The case details revealed that the defendant had been convicted of using a bladed weapon to inflict injury on the plaintiff. As part of the legal proceedings, the court appointed a forensic expert to assess the extent of the injuries sustained. The defendant, however, was ordered to pay Dh30,000 as compensation rather than the full amount sought by the plaintiff. The court found the sum sufficient to cover the material and moral damages resulting from the assault. The court also emphasized that the fine serves as a deterrent for violent acts involving weapons, ensuring public safety and adherence to the rule of law in Abu Dhabi.
