A man in Abu Dhabi has been fined Dh50,000 for sending insults to another man on WhatsApp. The Abu Dhabi Family, Civil and Administrative Cases Court found the man guilty of causing moral damages on the man who was the target of his WhatsApp messages. The victim had demanded Dh120,000 in compensation, saying that the man repeatedly sent him insults on WhatsApp. The case was first heard in the Abu Dhabi Criminal Court, which fined the man Dh10,000 for the insults and Dh5,000 for sending repeated messages. The victim appealed the verdict, which was upheld by the Court of Appeals. However, the man sent insulting messages again on WhatsApp, and a criminal case was filed in court, which set the fine at Dh250,000 and ordered the cancellation of his WhatsApp account and phone service.
