An Abu Dhabi citizen severely injured in a car accident, causing him to lose his memory, was given Dh300,000 in compensation for his injuries. The Abu Dhabi Court of Cassation confirmed an earlier Appeals Court judgment that ordered the insurance company that insured the car that caused the accident to pay the victim cash in compensation for the bodily, material, and moral damages he experienced as a result of the accident. The man had endured severe injuries that had affected his memory. According to court documents, the victim filed a complaint against the insurance firm, seeking Dh5 million in damages. The man stated that he was driving on a route in Abu Dhabi when a vehicle collided with his car. According to a medical assessment, the plaintiff sustained major injuries that resulted in permanent disability. A traffic court ruled that the second vehicle's driver was to blame for the incident. The man subsequently filed a complaint with the Insurance Disputes Settlement and Resolution Committee, which issued a judgment directing the insurer to pay the victim Dh150,000 for physical, material, and moral losses. The individual appealed the verdict to the commercial appeals court, which increased the amount of compensation to Dh300,000. The insurance firm appealed the judgment to Abu Dhabi's highest court, which rejected it and upheld the appeals court verdict. The insurance company has been ordered to reimburse the plaintiff's legal fees.
