A family from Al Ain was granted Dh200,000 in compensation after their child died in the hospital due to medical negligence. The Al Ain Court of Appeal upheld an earlier ruling by the lower court that ordered the hospital and its two doctors who treated the child to pay the family compensation after they were found guilty of medical negligence that resulted in the child's death. According to court documents, the parents filed a lawsuit against the two doctors and the hospital, seeking Dh15 million in compensation for the moral and material damages they suffered as a result of the death of their child due to medical negligence. The parents claimed that their son was suffering from a severe illness that required immediate medical attention and that he died due to the doctors' carelessness, lack of caution, and failure to follow proper medical standards in treating the child. The doctors and the hospital denied any malpractice in the child's treatment. However, a medical committee appointed by the court confirmed that the doctors were negligent in their treatment of the child. The Court of First Instance had previously ordered the hospital and its two doctors to pay the child's parents Dh90,000 after finding them guilty of medical negligence. The defendants and the parents appealed the ruling to the appeals court, which upheld the first court's decision. However, the appeals court judge increased the family's compensation payment to Dh200,000. The court ordered the hospital and doctors to pay the family's legal fees. BKM/ Expat Media
