A pharmacy in Abu Dhabi has been referred to the public prosecution for allegedly exploiting insurance policies by substituting medically prescribed drugs with other products. According to the Department of Health-Abu Dhabi (DOH), the pharmacy committed fraud to gain monetary benefit from financial claims covered by insurance companies. The healthcare regulator said that inspection and control teams spotted suspicious insurance claims by the pharmacy. After various follow-ups and inspection visits, the DoH disciplinary committee referred the pharmacy to the public prosecution for investigation. The department carried out more than 1,300 inspection visits in the first six months of 2023, detecting 43 violations, including the unlicensed practice of medical service and non-adherence to safety requirements. The DOH urged healthcare providers operating in Abu Dhabi to adhere its regulations to safeguard public health and safety. ICA/Expat Media
