The Abu Dhabi Police has issued a stern safety warning to motorists, urging them not to leave their vehicles running unattended while running errands or during prayers. This precaution, police officials said, is essential to prevent vehicle theft and reduce the risk of car fires, which may occur when vehicles are left idling. In a video, the police highlighted that leaving a vehicle with its engine running poses a significant safety risk not only to the vehicle but also to others on the road. The potential for theft increases when cars are left running, and it poses a threat to road safety due to the possibility of car fires. "Leaving your vehicle unattended with the engine running, even for a short time, compromises safety. Such behavior increases the risk of theft and accidents," the Abu Dhabi Police stated in their advisory. The police urged drivers to be vigilant, especially when stopping at petrol stations, shopping areas, or ATMs. Additionally, the police warned parents about the dangers of leaving children inside vehicles, particularly infants, while the engine is running. The advisory comes after several tragic cases where children left inside cars suffered fatal consequences due to the extreme heat in the UAE. "Never leave your child alone inside a vehicle, even with the engine running. Always take all necessary precautions to ensure their safety," authorities emphasized. The UAE has strict child protection laws, and parents can be held criminally liable for negligence if a child is harmed. The warning reflects ongoing efforts by the Abu Dhabi Police to raise awareness about road safety and prevent avoidable accidents. Recent campaigns have also targeted the dangers of distracted driving, seatbelt use, and the need for child car seats. With the UAE’s strict child safety regulations, parents are encouraged to ensure that their vehicles are secure at all times and that children are never left unattended in cars. ICA/Expat Media
