Abu Dhabi produces 9% of desalinated water in the world

  Abu Dhabi desalination plants produce 9 percent of the total desalinated water global supply. “The emirate of Abu Dhabi represents about 9 percent of the world’s total desalinated water production,” said Khadija Bin Braik, Director of Water Pricing and Tariffs at the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy. The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region accounts for about half of the total desalinated water supply globally. The UAE is the second-largest desalination market producing 14 percent of total desalinated water output. More than 70 percent of the water from Abu Dhabi goes to forestry and agriculture, while 16.5 percent goes to residential, and 1 percent to the industrial sector. Abu Dhabi is also discussing ways to fight climate change by 2030 and reduce emissions by 2050. Engineer Braik pointed out that the water and energy sectors are evolving fast in the modern age.
