Abu Dhabi's Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) is offering a 75 percent discount on fines related to violations of public appearance and health. This decision, authorizes municipal inspectors to detect violations and notify offenders. Offenders are then given an opportunity to settle by paying 75 percent of the fine if they correct the violation. Failure to comply will result in the municipality rectifying the violation at the violator’s expense. Additionally, violators have the right to appeal within a week of the violation notice. Repeat offenses will be treated as aggravating circumstances, leading to increased fines. The resolution also emphasizes that individuals who fail to correct violations within the specified timeframe will face penalties. The new resolution covers a broad range of regulations addressing public appearance, preservation of public spaces, and disturbances in public areas. Specific guidelines include camping regulations, satellite dish usage, abandoned vehicles, and maintenance of walls and road signs. Regulations for public appearance address neglect in property maintenance that impacts the visual appeal or poses a public safety threat, improper handling of flags, decoration of building facades, and inappropriate storage of materials on rooftops and balconies. Regulations for preserving public spaces include violations such as improper disposal of construction or farm waste, failure to follow road signs, picking flowers and fruits, defacing public properties, and disposing of waste in non-designated areas. The resolution also addresses disturbances in public spaces, including obstructing public areas, creating excessive noise, using disruptive lighting, unauthorized distribution of printed materials, and smoking in prohibited zones. DMT emphasized that this resolution is part of Abu Dhabi’s ongoing legislative efforts to ensure a thriving and sustainable future. Under the UAE law, penalties for acts against decency or public morality range from Dh1,000 to Dh100,000. Smoking in unauthorized areas carries a minimum fine of Dh500, while unauthorized posters and advertisements in public places attract fines between Dh1,000 and Dh10,000. ICA/Expat Media
