Residents in Abu Dhabi are being warned: public nuisance violations can now cost as much as Dh20,000. Al Dhafra Municipality has reminded the public to follow regulations covering events, camping and behaviour in public places. Authorities said fines will increase for repeat offenders. Holding, managing or promoting an event or camping in public places without prior authorisation from the relevant municipality will result in a Dh10,000 fine for the first offence, Dh15,000 for the second, and Dh20,000 for the third. If the event or camping activity has an expired licence, or organisers fail to comply with licence terms, the fine will be Dh3,000 for the first offence, Dh5,000 for the second, and Dh7,000 for the third. Authorities classified public nuisance violations into 11 categories. These include entering places designated only for one gender or for families, except for children under seven. Illegally reserving seats or facilities meant for the elderly or people of determination is also punishable. Other violations include: Distributing or placing printed materials on vehicles, poles or public spaces Bathing or washing animals in non-designated areas Using radios or loudspeakers in public places Making noise or using laser lights that disturb others Stirring up dust that causes annoyance Releasing offensive or dangerous substances Relieving oneself in non-designated places Spitting naswar or similar substances in public These offences carry fines of Dh1,000 for the first violation, Dh2,000 for the second, and Dh4,000 for the third. Spitting or blowing nasal secretions in public, obstructing sidewalks or emergency exits, and smoking in non-designated areas will result in Dh500 for the first offence, Dh1,000 for the second, and Dh2,000 for the third.
