Abu Dhabi city with world's best Covid-19 action

DUBAI – When it comes to the city with the best Covid-19 response in the world, the UAE capital of Abu Dhabi has topped a global ranking of 50 cities. Abu Dhabi was recognized for its efficient government services and quarantine management for the Covid-19 pandemic, according to a survey by London-based analytics consortium Deep Knowledge Group. Abu Dhabi topped the list, followed by Singapore, Seoul, Tel Aviv and Dubai. Also in the top ten were Toronto, Sydney, Zurich, Dublin and Ottawa, in that order. Abu Dhabi has led UAE efforts to combat the pandemic, with an aggressive testing and vaccination strategy and the setting up of several field hospitals. "Abu Dhabi topped the ranking due to measures that contributed to enhancing the speed and effectiveness of its response to the pandemic," according to Abu Dhabi Government Media Office. "As a result of these measures, the health and safety of the community was protected, while maintaining an open and competitive economy. Abu Dhabi also maintained its position as a pioneer in scientific research, digital initiatives and technology, and a leading destination for medical tourism," according to the media office. Infection rates have continued to decline in the UAE, while authorities have eased restrictions to allow businesses to reopen. More than 88 percent of the population are already vaccinated. On Wednesday, the UAE recorded its lowest number of Covid-19 infections in almost a year, with only 833 Covid-19 new cases in 24 hours. The UAE also has one of the lowest death rates from Covid-19 in the world. ICA/Expat Media
