An Abu Dhabi resident has been ordered to pay Dh15,000 in compensation to a woman he harassed with persistent phone calls and text messages. The Abu Dhabi Family, Civil, and Administrative Cases Court issued the verdict following an earlier ruling by the criminal court, which had found the man guilty of harassment and fined him Dh5,000. In her civil lawsuit, the plaintiff sought Dh51,000 in damages, citing material and moral harm, along with legal fees. She presented the criminal court judgment as supporting evidence. The court found that the defendant’s repeated calls from an unknown number caused significant distress to the woman. The judgment stated that his behavior violated her privacy, damaged her reputation in the community, and led to “stress, anxiety, and sleep disturbances”. The harassment also caused misunderstandings within her family, the court noted. Based on the established criminal conviction, the civil court ordered the man to pay Dh15,000 to compensate the woman for the moral and psychological damage she suffered. ICA/Expat Media
