Abu Dhabi restaurants can now sell food in open during Ramadan fasting hours

DUBAI – A new directive now allows restaurants at malls in Abu Dhabi to let customers eat or drink in public view during Ramadan fasting hours. The Abu Dhabi Mall recently issued the circular to customers to inform them that authorities have asked that screens be removed in front of their premises. "We are now in a situation where food and beverages are openly being served in public," the mall's own circular states. "This is supposed to apply to all malls." The circular also advised employees that the decision applies to “all restaurants/coffee shops in the entire city”. Previously, restaurants and cafes were required to cover windows or their premises with screens or partitions to keep the eating public out of view. Yas Mall and Abu Dhabi Mall restaurants started complying with the new ruling as of Tuesday. There is a federal law prohibiting eating and drinking in public during Ramadan, but in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, restaurants and bars are now open during daytime throughout the holy month.
