The Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA) has closed 23 food establishments across Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra due to serious food safety violations. The closures were a result of repeated offenses that posed risks to public health. Among the violations were poor hygiene, improper food storage, and the handling of expired food products. Some establishments were found selling frozen chicken as fresh and using food items from unknown sources. In one case, a supermarket was shut down after authorities discovered it selling expired products and failing to meet cleanliness standards. Another meat shop was penalized for labeling imported meat as local and for the widespread presence of cockroaches. "The health of our residents is our top priority," an ADFCA spokesperson stated. "Repeated violations will result in stringent actions, including closure." ADFCA also identified establishments with insect and rodent infestations and those engaged in unsafe food handling practices. Such lapses often result in foodborne illnesses, posing significant risks to public health. Residents are encouraged to report suspected violations through the ADFCA hotline.
