DUBAI – A souq that has been a landmark for local shoppers in Abu Dhabi since the late 70s is set to be demolished.
Shops in Zaab Souq in the Khalidiya area have closed down and the area has been cordoned off in the last two months.
The strip mall was the centre of activity in the Khalidiyah neighbourhood before big, air conditioned malls began springing up in Abu Dhabi.
It had been a symbol of the construction boom in the late 70s and 80s, and many similar buildings have been torn down to make room for newer shopping centres.
