The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) in Abu Dhabi has issued strict new rules for student transport, warning that children who repeatedly break safety rules or cause serious disruption may be banned from using school bus services. The ITC, which regulates transportation under the Department of Municipalities and Transport, said schools may also deny bus access if parents refuse to sign acknowledgment forms. Key safety and operational rules for schools: • Each bus carrying children under 11 must have a supervisor on board. • Schools must ensure adequate vehicles and seats for all students requesting transport. • Updated parent contact details are required at all times. • Contingency plans must be in place if children cannot be dropped at home. • Only licensed operators may be contracted. • Safety workshops must be conducted with authorities. Parents also have responsibilities to fulfill under the new rules. Parents must collect children under 11 at designated times, provide updated contact details, pay for damages their children cause, and ensure they follow bus rules such as wearing seatbelts and avoiding disruptive behavior. Students found repeatedly violating rules face suspension from school transport services. The ITC also noted that exceptions may be granted if schools can prove that providing transport for very small groups of students is not economically viable. The move comes as part of Abu Dhabi’s push to enhance student safety and ensure smooth school transport operations across the emirate.
