Abu Dhabi toll gates fees begin

DUBAI – Road tolls began in Abu Dhabi on Thursday (January 2) after new toll gates in the capital were activated at 7am. The toll gates are located on Sheikh Zayed Bridge, Sheikh Khalifa Bridge, Al Maqta Bridge and Musaffah Bridge. They were on trial operation from October 15, 2019 to January 1, 2020. With the toll system finally activated, motorists will be paying Dh4 for each time they pass through the toll gate. Fees are capped at Dh16 per day and Dh200 per month. Some motorists, however, have reported issues on signing up in the online system. Jason, a resident, told Expat Media that he was having a problem making changes to his account. “Every time I try to log in, it says account has been created. If I try to change reset password, I get a message saying: ‘500 - An error occurred when retrieving the information’,” he said. Abu Dhabi authorities have advised motorists to contact telephone number 80088888 in case of queries or issues. Abu Dhabi motorists will be automatically registered for an account, while motorists from other emirates will need to sign up and pay a Dh100 fee, with Dh50 credited back to their account. Transport authorities said that fees will be charged during rush hours from 7am and 9am and from 5pm to 7pm. Charges will be waived during off peak hours and on Fridays and public holidays.
