Abu Dhabi unveils most advanced marine research vessel in Middle East
Abu Dhabi has launched the Middle East's most advanced marine research vessel, aiding efforts to protect the emirate's marine life. The Jaywun vessel, named after one of the finest and most precious forms of pearl, will allow the Environment Agency Abu Dhabi (EAD) to monitor and assess the maritime environment and biodiversity. The 50-meter vessel will operate in the UAE's territorial waters in the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman, allowing the EAD to complete its research on the marine environment and fisheries in depths deeper than 10 meters. The vessel, which can house around 30 people, is outfitted with cutting-edge research equipment, including six laboratories for studying samples on the ship and a remotely-operated submarine vehicle. The vessel will also be used by EAD to monitor and conserve fish populations and marine biodiversity and inspire future Emirati scholars to pursue oceanography and fisheries studies in the Arabian Gulf.
