The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DOH) has warned against the use of the Weight Rapid Loss Capsule, saying it can potentially cause cancer. The product is being -marketed as “the most effective weight loss supplement”, and is being illegally sold through social media platforms like Instagram. According to DOH, laboratory results showed that the pills contain the banned substance “phenolphthalein”, which the US Food and Drug Administration has recognized as unsafe. "In addition, the studies indicated that phenolphthalein showed potential carcinogenic risks," the DoH added. According to the health authority, phenolphthalein has been found to be toxic to genes and can cause damage or mutations in the DNA. It also contains microbial growth above the permissible limits. DOH warned the public against using Weight Rapid Loss Capsule and urged health professionals to report any complaint via email to PVE@doh.gov.ae. ICA/Expat Media
