E-scooters with seats are strictly prohibited. ABU DHABI POLICE

As e-scooters gain popularity in Abu Dhabi, authorities have laid down strict traffic rules to ensure rider safety and maintain order. The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) of the Department of Municipalities and Transport has issued guidelines that every e-scooter rider in the emirate must follow. Only e-scooters that are less than 165 centimeters in height, weigh 35 kilograms or less, and have a width of 70 centimeters or less are allowed. E-scooters with seats and electric bikes with engines over 700 watts are strictly prohibited. To ensure the safety of riders and others, e-scooters must be used only on designated internal roads where the speed limit is below 40km/h, shared pedestrian and cyclist lanes, and bike lanes. Riding on highways, public roads, or pedestrian lanes is strictly prohibited. The maximum speed for e-scooters is set at 20km/h, and riders must follow several traffic rules. These include giving priority to pedestrians, following traffic laws, parking only in designated areas, and stopping at least 5 meters from school buses when the stop signal is activated. To enhance safety, riders are advised to wear helmets, reflective clothing, and use bells to alert others. The ITC also encourages avoiding dual headsets and carrying heavy weights that could affect balance. ICA/Expat Media
