Abu Dhabi's new rules for minibuses

  ABU DHABI - Starting on August 5, minibuses that do not meet Abu Dhabi Police's new rules will not be allowed to operate on roads in the emirate. The new rules for 15-seater minibuses include the installation of an anti-lock braking system (ABS), seat belts and head restraints for all passengers. Vehicles without these safety measures will not be permitted to carry passengers on the emirate’s roads. Minibuses that are nine years old will be allowed to run on Abu Dhabi roads for only one more year before their registration is cancelled. The vehicles must also be brought in for new registration under the new rules. The 2013 to 2016 models of minibuses will be permitted to operate for only five years from the first registration. Minibuses of 2013 to 2016 models that have completed five years of service will be allowed to transport passengers only for one more year. Requirements for minibuses up to the year model 2016: - Gulf specifications - anti-lock braking system - passenger seats spanning 30-centimetres in width - Extra seats or folding seats are not allowed - Seatbelts in all seats - airbags for driver and rear passenger seats - adjustable head restraints for all passengers - speed governor set at a maximum speed of 100km/h Minibuses registered in other emirates but pass through Abu Dhabi roads are required to undergo inspection at the Driver’s Licensing and Technical Directorate in Abu Dhabi to ensure that they comply with the new conditions.
