An Afghan woman will stand trial in Dubai for allegedly killing her 8-year-old autistic granddaughter by strangling her with a dress. According to Dubai Police, the child’s father—a mosque imam—left their home briefly and returned to find his daughter unconscious. Paramedics who responded confirmed her death and observed visible marks of strangulation on her neck. The father, who had invited his parents to Dubai on a visit visa, told authorities that he suspected his mother after the two had argued in the past about how to care for the child, who required special attention. During the investigation, the grandmother, identified as N.K.S., admitted to the crime. She told authorities she was overwhelmed by the child’s condition and wanted to ease her son and daughter-in-law’s burden. The family had planned to seek medical treatment for the girl in India. Forensic teams and criminal investigators were dispatched to the scene. The grandmother was confirmed to be the last person seen with the child alive before her death. Dubai Public Prosecution has taken over the case and is preparing legal proceedings against the suspect.
