An African man has been jailed in Dubai and will be deported after serving his prison sentence for a fake iPhone deal worth Dh314,000. The Dubai Court of Misdemeanour found him guilty of fraud also fined him Dh314,000. There were no further details released to the media about the man’s nationality or identity. The case dates back to January when an Asian trader of used mobile phones in Al Muraqqabat complained that an African duo took 90 iPhones from him after offering to buy them for Dh314,000. The trader met the two Africans at a hotel to seal the deal. They showed him a bag of money as payment, but later ran away with it along with the trader’s bag containing the mobile phones. Police investigators were able to track the African man at another hotel. Police seized from his possession part of the stolen money, including some fake bills. His accomplice remains at large.
