Comedienne Ai Ai de las Alas, who turned 60 this Monday (November 11), has confirmed her separation from husband Gerald Sibayan. The actress revealed details of their split during an emotional interview with Boy Abunda, where she explained how the desire for children contributed to the end of their relationship. "Yes, ama , hiwalay na kami," de las Alas confirmed, adding that the split was initiated by Sibayan. "On October 14, he messaged me — it was early morning here in the Philippines — and he said he wanted to have a child and that he wasn't happy anymore," she recounted. "I was shocked. I wondered why now, at this very moment." The couple’s age difference—de las Alas is 29 years Sibayan's senior—was something they had both considered when they wed in 2017. De las Alas admitted she had prepared herself for the possibility that her younger husband might one day want children. Despite trying in vitro fertilization, the actress said that health limitations prevented her from giving Sibayan the family he longed for. "I was hoping he wouldn’t change his mind, that God would bless me with a lasting marriage," she shared, adding that they even had three embryos prepared, each with names—Gail, Grain, and Gold. "I had hoped to surprise him by using our remaining embryo, but I realized that he doesn't like surprises," she said wistfully. In response to rumors about withdrawing her support for Sibayan’s green card in the US, de las Alas clarified, “He is just waiting for his green card. I might have said things in anger, but now, I can say that I wouldn't do that. To me, he is still my husband, and helping him obtain legal status in the US is my support for him." The couple had been living between the Philippines and the US due to her work obligations. As she moves forward, de las Alas says she hopes Sibayan finds happiness and the family he desires. “I wish you all the best," she said, concluding with a message of gratitude for the ten years they shared.
