Ever wondered about those flashing overhead cameras on Sheikh Zayed Road? Dubai Police has unveiled they are part of an advanced AI-powered traffic monitoring system that automatically detects and fines motorists committing violations — from tailgating to using mobile phones while driving. The system, showcased at the ongoing GITEX Global 2025, operates without human intervention and is already active on key Dubai roads, including Sheikh Zayed Road. According to Dubai Police, the smart system can identify five types of violations: 1. Not wearing a seatbelt 2. Using a mobile phone while driving 3. Obstructing traffic 4. Stopping in the middle of the road without reason 5. Failing to maintain a safe distance Lieutenant Engineer Ahmed Al Hammadi explained that the platform provides real-time analysis and detailed data, helping authorities make faster, data-driven decisions for road safety. “This system is smarter, fairer, and more efficient. It enhances the performance of traffic police and supports Dubai’s vision of becoming a smart and safe city,” Al Hammadi said.
