A 'virtual lawyer' will soon assist legal institutions in preparing legal pleadings for simple cases, the Ministry of Justice announced, in conjunction with the activities of GITEX 2024. The virtual lawyer, the first AI-guided legal professional in the UAE and the region, aims to enhance the litigant's experience by reducing case processing times. It will utilize the "Unified National Legislative Texts Database," developed by the Ministry of Justice. Law firms that wish to use this tool must first register the virtual lawyer with the Ministry and contribute to its database. The trial version is set to launch in 2025. During the initial phase, it will help lawyers with simple cases, featuring abilities like interacting with a judge, converting voice to text and text to voice, and submitting memoranda and documents. This project aims to prepare the justice sector for future opportunities and their effects on legal professions. It uses advanced technology and AI to develop new government models that speed up services and enhance the customer experience in a digital, interactive litigation setting. The project will also prioritise clients' cyber security, ensuring user privacy and data protection within the UAE government's cloud environment and the Ministry of Justice's digital platform. The virtual lawyer project was developed in collaboration with the Office of Government Development and the Future, along with the Office of Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications in the UAE Government.
