Air India Express passengers stranded in UAE airport

DUBAI – More than a hundred Air India Express passengers were stranded at the Abu Dhabi International Airport for 16 hours on Friday (December 21). Flight IX348 from Abu Dhabi to Kozhikode was scheduled to take off at 12:20am but was only able to depart the airport at 4:50pm. Air India Express, in a statement, said the flight delay was due to a “technical snag, which was progressive in nature”. The airline said that passengers were given hotel accommodation and refreshments. However, passengers said they were only informed about the nature of the delay at the time of boarding at around 2:30pm. Passengers said that although they were given hotel accommodation, they received conflicting information that the flight would be cancelled, however, they were later told that the flight would be delayed further. K.K. Moideen Koya, an Abu Dhabi resident, said passengers were informed by hotel staff that the flight would take off at 10am, but that the flight got delayed yet again. Passengers were finally able to board the plane at 2:30pm but had to wait for more than two hours before it could take off at 4:50pm, he said.
