Ajman bakery salesman wins Dh12 million in Big Ticket draw

DUBAI – A bakery salesman in Ajman has become the newest multi-millionaire in the UAE after winning Dh12 million at the Big Ticket draw in Abu Dhabi. Assain Muzhippurath, 47, won the jackpot in the draw on Wednesday (June 3). He bought his winning ticket 138411 on May 14. “This lottery is unexpected. Actually I thought it was a prank call. So when they called I just said ‘Mashallah, thank you’ and disconnected and returned to work,” he said. “Soon I realised, it’s real. Anyhow, I will carry on my work for a while and take a call. I can afford to decide my future,” he said. Muzhippurath, who has lived in the UAE in the last 28 years, plans to return to Kerala in India to be with his wife and their teenage daughters. The Indian expat said it has been his dream of returning home one day. “For some time now I also started having thoughts of going back,” he said. He said this pushed him to buy the ticket by himself, hoping to get lucky since he couldn’t save much despite his stable job as a salesman. “I started testing my luck for past 4-5 times and got lucky this time around. I have bought this ticket alone and am not sharing with anyone else,” he said. He plans to use his winnings to start a business in his hometown of Kozhikode district. He will also throw a party for his friends.
