Ajman expat who lost Dh16,000 in phone scam gets money back

An Arab expatriate in Ajman has recovered Dh16,000 that a scammer stole from his bank account, according to Ajman Police. Ajman Police helped the victim recover his money from a phone scammer, said Lieutenant Colonel Ghaith Khalifa Al Kaabi, head of Al Madinah Comprehensive Police Station. The Arab man had received a phone call from an Asian man posing as a policeman and asking him to update his personal date with the police. The scammer asked him for his bank card number and PIN code. After getting the victim’s personal details, the scammer then withdrew Dh16,000 from the man’s bank account. After realizing he was scammed, the Arab man alerted police, who contacted the bank regarding the stolen funds. Following a week of coordination with the bank and police, the money was deposited back to the victim’s account. The Arab victim visited the Ajman Police station with his children to express his gratitude to the force for their prompt action and efforts in retrieving the stolen money. ICA/Expat Media
