Al Ain: Car buyer who racked up traffic fines sues vehicle owner

A man in Al Ain who racked up traffic fines using a car he wanted to buy has sued the owner of the vehicle as well as the broker who arranged the deal. The Al Ain Court of First Instance has dismissed the case after finding out that the man had not paid the full amount of the car, while also incurring several traffic fines under the original owner's name. The case began after the car buyer filed a lawsuit against the broker and car owner, demanding that his Dh90,000 initial payment be returned since the car ownership was not transferred to him. According to court records, the agreed sale price for the car was Dh98,000, however, the vehicle owner could not transfer the car ownership to the buyer since the latter did not pay the Dh8,000 balance despite using the car for three months. The buyer also racked up several traffic fines in the original owner’s name, records show. The broker told the court that he was not responsible for the non-transfer of the car ownership since his role was only to facilitate the sale. In his defence, the car buyer claimed that he paid Dh5,000 to repair the car and he demanded that it be deducted from the purchase price. The Al Ain Court of First Instance ruled to dismiss the case and ordered the car buyer to pay the legal expenses of the car owner and the broker. ICA/Expat Media
