Al Ain: Dh40,000 Snapchat account sale case dismissed
The Al Ain Court of First Instance has dismissed the case of a man who sued another man for Dh40,000 over a Snapchat account that he bought. The buyer demanded Dh40,000 in damages from the seller, plus legal interest of 5 percent and payment of his legal fees. He claimed to the court that the man sold him a Snapchat account for Dh40,000 but that it was disabled after two days. He said that the seller also ignored his calls and had sold the same account to another person. A court-appointed IT expert who investigated the matter testified that it was actually the buyer who sold the account to another person for Dh50,000 after using it for two months, and that the account was disabled because of misuse by the new owner. The expert said that since the buyer used the account for two months before selling it, this proved that the account did not have defects. As a result, the court dismissed the case and ordered the buyer to pay the legal fees of the man whom he sued.
