UAE doctors find something shocking in baby’s stomach

  AL AIN – A 23-month-old baby admitted at a hospital in Al Ain gave attending physicians the shock of their life. Inside the baby’s stomach were 21 magnets! It was not clear how the baby got hold of the magnets but doctors said that the baby must have somehow swallowed the objects. Doctors at Tawam Hospital immediately performed an operation to save the baby’s life. “Failure to do so would have put pressure on the baby’s veins and resulted in dire consequences,” said Dr. Khalid Al Harbi, consultant paediatric pulmonologist, who led the team that performed the operation. Doctors did not say how long the magnets were in the baby’s stomach, but the objects caused eight holes in the baby’s intestines and also caused some damage to the stomach and colon. Following what doctors described as a successful surgery, the baby—whose identity was not revealed—has been discharged from hospital and is reportedly in good condition.
