An employee who was fired from his job has been awarded Dh14,453 in compensation by the Al Ain Appellate Court. The court found that the employee was terminated from his job where he worked for more than four years. He also did not receive his salary for three months prior to losing his job. The employee had filed a labour complaint for unlawful dismissal, saying that his employer terminated his services after more than four years of employment. He demanded for compensation of Dh23,590, which included Dh7,000 for his annual leave allowance, Dh3,000 for notice period fees, Dh4,590 as end-of-service gratuity, and Dh9,000 in overdue salaries. Authorities contacted the employer but did not get a response, so a decision was issued in favour of the employee. The court ruled that the employee was entitled to Dh1,125 for annual leave allowance and Dh4,328 as end-of-service gratuity. In court, the employer’s lawyers insisted that the employee quit his job, and that he received his full salary. They also insisted that he was not entitled to a travel ticket allowance. However, during interrogation, the employer acknowledged that the employee did not receive his salary for the last three months. The court obligated the employer to pay the employee Dh14,453 in compensation as well as court fees and lawyers’ fees.
