Al Ain Zoo is inviting families to spend Ramadan afternoons and nights among wildlife, music and tradition. One of the largest zoos in the Middle East, Al Ain Zoo will open daily from 2pm to 10pm throughout the holy month. Visitors can explore its grounds at a relaxed pace, surrounded by more than 4,000 animals. Outdoor majlis seating areas overlooking the rhinos and giraffes offer quiet spots to unwind before or after iftar. Bird and reptile pop-up encounters will also continue into the evening, giving guests a closer look at some of the zoo’s fascinating residents.

Those looking for a different place to break their fast can head to the newly opened Zarafa Restaurant for a serving of traditional chicken machboos. A short walk away, Oasis Café serves UAE-style luqaimat paired with hot chocolate for a simple, comforting dessert. As night falls, live oud and qanun performances add a gentle soundtrack to the experience. In the Pavilion area, traditional children’s games return, alongside face painting, animal-themed play areas and henna decoration.

Run under the stars

Fitness enthusiasts can mark February 28 on their calendar as the zoo brings back its annual Ramadan Zoo Night Run. Starting at 10pm, runners can choose between 2.5km and 5km routes designed for beginners and amateur participants. Finishers will receive Al Ain Zoo-themed medals. Visitors can also step inside the Sheikh Zayed Desert Learning Center, located within the zoo grounds. The center offers interactive exhibits on wildlife, sustainability and conservation efforts in the UAE. During Ramadan, additional evening timings will allow guests to catch the night projection Heritage show. General admission is Dh31.50 for adults and Dh10.50 for children aged 3 to 12. Entry is free for children under three. For those seeking a closer wildlife encounter, the Al Ain Safari offers a 45-minute guided journey in a private SUV for up to six guests, priced at Dh1,050.
