Dubai’s Al Maktoum Bridge will remain closed every Sunday for 24 hours until January 16, 2025 for maintenance work, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced. The bridge will also remain closed from Monday to Saturday between 11pm and 5am, impacting commuters on both sides of the creek. Motorists are urged to plan their journeys in advance and use alternative routes, such as the Infinity Bridge, Al Shindagha Tunnel, Business Bay Crossing Bridge, and Al Garhoud Bridge, to avoid delays. Al Maktoum Bridge, Dubai’s oldest bridge, connects Bur Dubai, home to attractions like Dubai Frame, with Deira, where landmarks such as the Gold Souq and the Clocktower are located. Built in 1963, Al Maktoum Bridge was designed to facilitate quicker crossings between Bur Dubai and Deira, replacing the older Abra boat crossings. Over the years, it has become an essential part of Dubai's infrastructure but requires regular maintenance due to its age. The RTA emphasized that maintaining Dubai’s older structures, including Al Maktoum Bridge, is vital to ensure they meet modern safety and operational standards. The ongoing works are expected to keep traffic flow optimized once the bridge reopens.
