Residents of the Al Nahda building, which caught fire on Saturday, are still stranded and looking for alternate housing. Many of them were displaced when a fire broke out in a residential building in Al Nahda 1 at around 2:45 pm on Saturday. Dubai Civil Defence put out the fire, and no injuries were recorded. Sameer, a building tenant, said he is moving to another apartment since the place is no longer suitable to live in following the fire. Another resident, Isham, who was staying in the same building with his wife, is also looking for another place. "We have moved to another place and are living in a room arranged by my wife's friend. We are looking for proper alternative accommodation. After a few days, we'll change the accommodation to somewhere we can stay on a long-term basis," he said. Isham was fortunate not to have lost any possessions in the fire. Doreen, a Nigerian national, also her stuff in the fire and has been unable to find another place to stay. "I recently renewed my rental contract and made two months of payment in advance. But now I don't have money to pay more for rent," she said. Doreen has also lost her clothes in the fire and is still waiting for assistance.
