Filipino tennis star Alex Eala at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships on February 15, 2026.

All eyes now turn to Tuesday night (February 17) as Filipino rising star Alexandra Eala prepares for the biggest test of her young career at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships. Fresh from her opening-round victory in front of a passionate crowd at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Stadium, the 20-year-old will now face World No8 and former Dubai champion Jasmine Paolini. Eala made headlines on Sunday (February 15) when she advanced after defeating American Hailey Baptiste, sending Filipino fans into celebration on Centre Court. Now, the stakes rise dramatically. Paolini is no stranger to success in Dubai. The Italian lifted the WTA 1000 trophy here in 2024 to claim the biggest title of her career. Known for her speed, counterpunching and big-match temperament, she represents a major step up in competition for Eala. For the young Filipino, however, the moment is as exciting as it is challenging. “No-one likes advancing in this way,” Eala said after her first-round win against Baptiste, referring to her opponent’s retirement. “Being on Tour, I am starting to discover how difficult it is to maintain your health physically.” Looking ahead, she added: “I’m super happy to be in the next round. This tournament is serving up such great experiences for me, especially playing in front of the best crowd ever. Hello everyone, hello kabayans!” That crowd is expected to return in full voice on Tuesday evening, hoping to power Eala to another upset. The match is scheduled for 7pm. The 26th edition of the WTA 1000 event runs from February 15 to 21 and features 16 of the world’s top 20 players. It will be followed by the ATP 500 men’s tournament from February 23 to 28. Tickets start from Dh65, with strong demand expected for Tuesday’s evening session. For Filipino tennis fans in the UAE, it promises to be another emotional night under the Dubai lights.
