Mikee Morada comforts Alex Gonzaga in her hospital bed. ARCHIVE
Actress and vlogger Alex Gonzaga has once again opened her heart to the public, revealing in a vlog that she and her husband, Mikee Morada, recently suffered their third miscarriage. The heartbreaking loss occurred in late December 2024, just a week before Alex’s 37th birthday. In the final moments of her video, Alex shared a deeply personal letter addressed to her husband, expressing her sorrow and unwavering faith. “Dearest Mikee, I’m so sorry again for our loss,” she wrote. “Let’s keep believing. By God’s grace, we will have the family we have always prayed for.” Watch it here: The revelation has sparked widespread support from fans and fellow celebrities, yet it also highlights a deeply ingrained stigma surrounding pregnancy loss. Miscarriage, though common, is still a topic many women and families struggle to discuss openly. Dr. Kate Prozeller, a licensed psychologist based in Dubai, spoke with Expat Media about the silent suffering that often accompanies pregnancy loss. “Many women blame themselves for their loss or feel their grief is invalid compared to others who lost full-term pregnancies,” she explained. “This is compounded by societal pressures that expect women to grieve silently.” According to the National Institute of Health, an estimated 23 million pregnancies end in miscarriage each year—equivalent to 44 losses every minute. Despite these numbers, the grief of those who experience it remains largely unspoken. Fathers, too, often suppress their emotions, fearing they must remain strong for their partners. Dr. Prozeller emphasized the importance of therapy and support groups in navigating the grief of miscarriage. In a separate vlog posted by Alex’s sister, Toni Gonzaga, Mikee Morada opened up about the emotional toll of their third miscarriage. He shared that the pregnancy came as a surprise, as they were just about to prepare Alex’s body for in-vitro fertilization (IVF). “When we found out we were pregnant for the third time, we immediately went for a checkup, and everything was okay,” Mikee recalled. “Then, in the second week, the ultrasound was still fine. But on the third week, the doctor told us, ‘Oh no, it’s empty again.’” Doctors diagnosed Alex with another blighted ovum, a condition she had also experienced in her first miscarriage in 2021. The couple sought a second opinion, and on their fourth ultrasound, they finally saw a fetus and even heard a heartbeat, albeit weak at only 65 beats per minute. Determined to save their baby, Alex and Mikee took every precaution. However, during their checkup on December 28, they received the devastating news that the baby no longer had a heartbeat. “We looked at each other and just nodded,” Mikee said. “But when we got home, that’s when Alex broke down.” Alex’s second miscarriage occurred in November 2023 after a failed IVF attempt. Despite these painful experiences, she remains hopeful about the future. The couple, who got engaged in 2019 and married in 2020, have shown remarkable resilience in the face of repeated loss. Their openness in sharing their journey has helped break the silence surrounding pregnancy loss and offered comfort to many others facing similar struggles.
