The Bangladeshi ambassador to the UAE has denied reports that the Emirates has imposed a ban on work or tourist visas for Bangladeshi nationals. Ambassador Tareq Ahmed said the rumours, which circulated on social media and unverified websites, had no basis and were not linked to any official UAE announcement. “UAE authorities have not issued any new directives regarding the ban; therefore, the news is inauthentic,” he told Bangladesh’s NTV. Md. Rashedujjaman, the consul-general of Bangladesh in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, echoed the statement, adding that Dhaka is in “discussion to ease visas for Bangladeshis with the UAE government.” According to Global Media Insight, there are about 840,000 Bangladeshi nationals in the UAE, making up 7.4 percent of the population. The consul-general estimates the figure is closer to one million, underscoring the community’s importance to both nations. The clarification follows days of uncertainty among UAE’s Bangladeshi workers and their families, many of whom feared disruption in employment and travel. ICA/Expat Media
