FACEBOOK After a viral Coldplay concert video exposed what appeared to be an affair between tech CEO Andy Byron and his HR executive Kristin Cabot, the embattled Astronomer founder has issued a public apology. But not everyone is buying it. The moment—which unfolded at Coldplay’s show at Gillette Stadium near Boston—was captured on the venue’s giant “kiss cam” and showed Byron with his arms wrapped around Cabot. As the jumbotron spotlighted them, frontman Chris Martin mused onstage, “Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy.” Byron ducked out of frame while Cabot shielded her face. What was supposed to be a night of music became a public unveiling of a private scandal, sparking immediate fallout. Byron later released a statement: “I want to acknowledge the moment that’s been circulating online, and the disappointment it’s caused,” he wrote. “What was supposed to be a night of music and joy turned into a deeply personal mistake playing out on a very public stage. I want to sincerely apologize to my wife, my family, and the team at Astronomer. You deserve better from me as a partner, as a father, and as a leader.” “This is not who I want to be or how I want to represent the company I helped build… I ask for privacy as I navigate that process,” he said, while also expressing dismay that the moment became public. “What should have been a private moment became public without my consent… I hope we can think more deeply about the impact of turning someone else’s life into a spectacle,” he said. He ended the statement by quoting Coldplay’s lyrics: “Lights will guide you home, and ignite your bones, and I will try to fix you.” But not everyone sees the apology as sincere.

Therapists and critics call it ‘damage control’

US-based life coach and therapist Richele Kramer criticized Byron’s statement as “missing the mark on true accountability.” “Referring to the incident as ‘a night of music and joy’ redirects focus from the real issue: a betrayal of trust within his marriage and family,” Kramer said. “This reads as a textbook example of someone caught in the act—not someone stepping forward to take ownership.” She added, “True remorse does not begin with lamenting that the moment became public. It begins with acknowledging the devastation caused by the betrayal itself.” According to multiple sources, Byron’s wife, Megan Kerrigan Byron, left him the same night and has reportedly refused any further contact. She has since removed his last name from her social media accounts. Former Astronomer employees claim she also deleted her profile entirely after being flooded with public comments following the viral video. Meanwhile, Cabot—Astronomer’s chief HR officer—has deactivated her own social media accounts. She divorced her husband, Kenneth Thornby, in 2022 and is reportedly co-parenting a child with him. Court records show she received a lump-sum child support payment as part of their settlement. Public reaction: “She needs to re-read her own HR manual” Former colleagues of Byron have responded with glee to the scandal, calling it karmic justice. “Everybody’s laughing.. and enjoying the hell out of what happened and him getting exposed,” one ex-employee said, describing Byron as a “toxic” boss. Online, the backlash has been swift and unforgiving. “Cost of a concert: Hotel $200, tickets $600, food/drinks $150, divorce attorney $50,000.
