Actress opens up to Vanity Fair about 'life difficulties' after splitting with Brad Pitt

  LOS ANGELES - Angelina Jolie has revealed that she suffered Bell's palsy, a condition in which the muscles on one side of the face become weak or paralyzed, during the "difficult" year after her split from husband Brad Pitt. Aside from that, the 42-year-old Oscar-winning actress-filmmaker told Vanity Fair that she developed hypertension. She underwent acupuncture treatment and completely recovered from her Bell's palsy. After she and Pitt split in September last year and filed for divorce shortly after, Jolie decided to live apart. Jolie sought custody of her children - Maddox, 15; Pax, 13; Zahara, 12; Shiloh, 11; and nine-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne. Jolie and her children recently moved to a new 11,000-square-foot house in Loz Feliz area in Los Angeles, according to Vanity Fair. Jolie said her relationship with Pitt "became difficult" sometime around summer last year, which was at the same time she was in postproduction of her film "First, They Killed My Father" -a film about the Cambodian genocide and will be shown on Netflix later this year. Jolie didn't elaborate but she rejected the notion that their travel-heavy, hectic way of life was an issue in their relationship. She said their lifestyle was not in any way a negative. "That was not the problem. That is and will remain one of the wonderful opportunities we are able to give our children . . . They're six very strong-minded, thoughtful, worldly individuals. I'm very proud of them. They've been very brave. They were very brave." Reminiscing about life with her mother in comparison to her current situation, Jolie said: "I was very worried about my mother, growing up -- a lot. I do not want my children to be worried about me." "I think it's very important to cry in the shower and not in front of them. They need to know that everything's going to be all right even when you're not sure it is." Meanwhile, Jolie said she and Pitt "care for each other" and care about their family, adding that they are both working together to raise their children in the best possible way despite their divorce.
