'New regional partnerships will emerge and strengthen', says UAE foreign affairs minister

  MANAMA – UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Dr Anwar Mohammad Gargash on Thursday said the four-nation bloc against Qatar is looking beyond Doha and will "continue to confront extremism and terrorism and work for Arab security and stability". In a series of tweets posted on his official Twitter account that has 456,160 followers, Gargash commented on the diplomatic crisis between the bloc composed of the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Egypt on one side and Qatar on the other. Gargash tweeted: "We have to go on without Qatar; a conservative Gulf monarchy, in totally anachronistic place. Promoting policies & values it does not practice. Now that Qatar crisis has taken so long, important to look beyond 'crisis' & think of it as new set of relations in Gulf replacing old ones." "Barring Qatar's review of past policies, current state will continue for a while. New regional relationships will emerge & strengthen." Gargash issued the tweets ahead of a meeting by the bloc's foreign ministers in Manama to discuss about Qatar. The meeting is a follow-up to the one held in Cairo on July 5 on the same issue. The bloc severed diplomatic relations with Qatar on June 5 and cut air, land and sea links with Doha for its alleged support to extremism. The bloc earlier submitted a list of demands to Qatar to resolve the crisis but Doha rejected the demands and pictured itself as a victim in the feud. Gargash tweeted: "Qatar's self-victimisation statements are staggering and the lack of sense of responsibility is completely absent. They want the impression that the four countries have taken action because the region needs more tension."
