Arab couple mowed down by speeding car on Abu Dhabi sidewalk

DUBAI - An Arab couple died after they were hit by a speeding car that veered on the sidewalk in Abu Dhabi's Mohammad Bin Zayed City. Police said that the victims, in their 40s, were walking on the sidewalk when they were hit by the car and were killed on the spot. The incident happened after the roundabout of Mahwi Bridge at Mohammad Bin Zayed City. Initial police investigation showed that the driver changed lanes without checking that the road was clear, causing him to lose control of the vehicle, which swerved into the sidewalk and hit the two pedestrians. The couple was dragged for nearly 100 metres under the vehicle, which also flattened the garden of a villa compound before coming to a stop. Brigadier Salim Abdullah bin Barak Al Dhaheri, Director of the Traffic Department of the Traffic and Patrols Department of Abu Dhabi Police, said the bodies of the victims have been taken to the Khalifa Hospital. “Accident happened as he took a sudden deviation and collided with the pavement from the left and lost control of the vehicle. Once out of control, the vehicle hit the two victims,” Al Dhaheri said. The driver, a GCC national, has been arrested and is expected to face charges. GAD/Expat 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
