Arab who made Dh1m begging in Sharjah arrested and police seize money stashed in his apartment

  SHARJAH – An Arab man who made a living begging on the streets of Sharjah has amassed a fortune of Dh1 million, Sharjah Police said on Monday (August 22). Police said they arrested the suspect, in his 50s, and seized the money that was hidden in his apartment. The man was among 9,663 illegals and beggars arrested in the emirate as part of Sharjah’s ongoing crackdown. Lt Col Saleem Harimal, Head of Violations Section at Sharjah Police, said a large number of those arrested were hiding in abandoned buildings. Police investigators have caught people who beg on the streets during the day but sleep in luxury hotels at night. Many of those arrested have obtained visit visas to the UAE so they can work exclusively as beggars.
