An Arab man who helped Abu Dhabi Police and emergency teams reach a motorcycle accident site in a remote sandy area has been formally recognised for his quick thinking and humanitarian spirit. The man was honoured during a ceremony at Abu Dhabi Police headquarters after guiding police patrols, ambulance teams and investigators to the accident location in record time. His detailed knowledge of the area’s desert tracks played a crucial role in speeding up the rescue response. Brigadier-General Hamdan Saif Al Mansouri, Director of the Al Dhafra Region Police Directorate, presented the recognition and thanked the man for his initiative, describing it as a strong example of social responsibility and positive community cooperation. The ceremony was also attended by Brigadier-General Salem Bakheet Al Hamli, Deputy Director of Stations Affairs in Al Dhafra. Abu Dhabi Police said the assistance significantly helped emergency teams carry out their field duties efficiently, particularly in challenging sandy terrain where access can be difficult. On January 8 (Thursday), Abu Dhabi Police reported handling seven motorcycle accidents in sandy areas, many of which were caused by reckless driving and failure to comply with safety requirements. Nine people sustained injuries ranging from moderate to serious. Brigadier-General Mahmoud Yousef Al Balushi, Director of the Traffic and Security Patrols Directorate, urged motorcyclists to wear proper protective gear, ensure their motorcycles are in good condition, and check that lights and tyres are functioning correctly. He also advised riders to carry first aid kits and approved safety equipment. He reminded riders to reduce speed in crowded areas and use designated lanes, warning that violators will be monitored by traffic patrols on internal roads and highways. Meanwhile, Colonel Jaber Saeedan Al Mansouri, Director of the Traffic and Security Patrols Department in Al Ain, called on parents to accompany children to areas where they practice motorcycle riding, including uninhabited sandy locations, to prevent risky behaviour that could lead to serious accidents.
