Arabian Ranches murders: Suspect arrested, Dubai Police reveal more details

DUBAI – The suspect in the double murder in Dubai’s Arabian Ranches community was arrested within 24 hours of the crime, the Dubai Police revealed on Tuesday (June 23). Police said the Asian suspect had stabbed to death an Indian couple as he attempted to rob them in their villa on June 18. The suspect knew the couple, identified as Hiren Adhiya and wife Vidhi, because he carried out maintenance work in their villa, police said. "He used to work at a maintenance company and carried out some work at the villa. While doing his job, he saw large sums of money kept at the house. He purchased a knife from a shop that was far from his residence and made his way to the villa to commit the crime," said Colonel Adel Al Joker, assistant director-general for criminal investigation. Police investigation revealed that the suspect entered the villa after climbing a wall and accessing an unlocked verandah. Brigadier Jamal Salem Al Jallaf, director of the General Department of Criminal Investigation, said the suspect stole a wallet with Dh2,000 and then headed upstairs to search for more valuables. He entered the couple’s bedroom, which woke up Hiren, who he then stabbed multiple times. The commotion woke up Hiren’s wife, who was also stabbed by the suspect. Police said the couple’s eldest daughter woke up from the screams and found her parents in a pool of blood. She saw the suspect fleeing with a knife and raised an alarm, prompting the suspect to attack her before fleeing the scene. She sustained minor injuries and called the police. Police were able to find the murder weapon 1,000 metres away from the villa. Data analysis from the object led to the suspect’s arrest in a neighbouring emirate. The suspect confessed to committing the gruesome murders. ICA/Expat Media
