French architect Tristan Auer has revealed his vision for the carefully planned restoration of Dubai's Burj Al Arab, describing the project as a "once-in-a-lifetime opportunity" to preserve one of Dubai’s most iconic landmarks. Jumeirah announced in April that the sail-shaped luxury hotel will undergo an 18-month phased restoration programme designed to preserve its architectural legacy while refreshing its interiors for future generations. Auer said his goal is not to reinvent the landmark, but to preserve and elevate its identity. “My hope is when the customer arrives, that they will still consider it as the icon of Dubai and the best hotel, maybe in the world,” Auer said. “I consider myself as a tailor, so I’m not imposing anything. I’m designing for somebody else. It’s more about celebrating, preserving, enhancing and refresh,” he said. He added: “All my inspiration are coming from movies. Movies are made by sequences, and it’s talking to our brains on different levels, which is talking about space.” “It’s a high responsibility for me. It’s a high pressure on my shoulders. I think this is a project that you have once in your life,” he said.
