Five men from a Central Asian country have been sentenced to three years in jail followed by deportation for stealing a safe containing cash, jewelry, and valuable watches from a villa in Dubai’s Jebel Ali area. The Dubai Criminal Court handed down the verdict after the gang was found guilty of breaking into the villa in March 2024 while the owners were abroad. The incident was reported by a European woman who returned with her family to find their belongings ransacked and the iron safe missing. “The safe contained cash in various currencies, gold jewelry, high-end watches, and personal documents,” the complainant said during investigations. Dubai Police launched an extensive investigation, examining surveillance footage from the villa and its surroundings. A rented vehicle linked to the suspects provided a breakthrough, leading to their arrest in another emirate, where the stolen items were recovered. A police officer involved in the case said that the suspects entered the UAE on visit visas and planned the crime meticulously. The suspects reportedly rented an apartment to serve as their base and used a vehicle to transport the stolen goods.
