Tropical Storm Trami, locally known as Kristine, has claimed at least 26 lives and displaced over 163,000 people in the Philippines, according to local officials on Thursday (October 24). Trami made landfall in the northeastern town of Divilacan in Isabela province and brought heavy torrential rainfall to the main island of Luzon, causing widespread flooding and landslides. Officials reported that most of the storm-related deaths in recent days were caused by drowning and landslides in the central Bicol region, including Naga City, where 14 fatalities were confirmed on Thursday. Over 163,000 residents were taking shelter in evacuation centers, with the majority in Bicol, where residents fled their homes after floodwaters rose to the rooftops of bungalow houses. According to PAG-ASA, the country's weather agency, Trami will head toward the West Philippine Sea and leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Friday (October 25). The weather agency is monitoring another low-pressure system outside the PAR, stating there's a "high chance" it could develop into a tropical depression after Trami. FLE/Expat Media
