A manhunt is on for Filipino fugitive Charlie "Atong" Ang. PNP

Philippine police have received 40 hotline tips on the possible whereabouts of fugitive businessman Charlie “Atong” Ang, as authorities continue a nationwide search for the accused crime figure. At a press briefing at Camp Crame on Monday (January 26), Col. John Guiagui, chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group–National Capital Region (CIDG-NCR), said most of the tips pointed to areas in Cavite, Batangas, Laguna, and the Bicol Region. Guiagui said the reported sightings were made before arrest warrants were issued against Ang, who is accused of masterminding the disappearance of more than a dozen cockfighting enthusiasts. Police are also verifying information suggesting that Ang may have already fled the country, possibly to Cambodia or Thailand. However, Guiagui said that without confirmed sightings abroad, authorities will continue to treat him as being inside the Philippines. "As long as he’s not abroad and he’s here, we are 100 percent hopeful that we will find him," Guiagui said in Filipino. Police teams have already searched 14 locations across Metro Manila, Central Luzon, and Calabarzon, including a home in Pasig City, two properties in Mandaluyong, and a penthouse in Quezon City, but have yet to locate Ang. Authorities are also checking three more locations in Metro Manila, although details were withheld due to ongoing operations. Meanwhile, the CIDG has issued a subpoena to the notary public who notarised an affidavit submitted by Ang’s camp regarding a missing rifle. Ang’s legal team said the firearm was lost in October 2025. Five of Ang’s six registered firearms were surrendered last week to the Mandaluyong City Police, days after the Philippine National Police cancelled his gun licences. Despite this, Guiagui said Ang remains armed and dangerous. "He has many bodyguards and associates who want to protect him. To protect someone, you need to be armed," he said. Authorities said search operations across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao are ongoing as police continue to validate all incoming information. CAM/Expat Media
